Taylor Swift's “Christmas Tree Farm,” Justin Bieber's “Mistletoe,” and Stevie Wonder's holiday earworm, “Someday at Christmas.” As it turns out, all a good Christmas song needs is a hook and a Hallmark-worthy beat. Then, we got to thinking: What even makes makes a good Christmas song? Is it the nostalgia, the tempo, the lyrics, or the sheer ability for it to lodge itself in your head? Since then, I’ve added Chance the Rapper and Jeremih’s “Merry Christmas Lil Mama,” along with Patti LaBelle’s 1996 rendition of “This Christmas” to the top of my list. At the time, I played it safe with a classic: “Carol of the Bells.” She opted for “I Saw Mommy Kissing Santa Claus.” Another solid choice. One night, she asked, “What’s your favorite Christmas song?” For some reason-'tis the season, I guess?-I haven’t stopped thinking about it. ![]() ![]() ![]() This holiday season has sparked a debate between my girlfriend and I. ![]()
